When Less Becomes More

Did you know? Even the most environmentally friendly garment requires resources for production and transportation to your home, resulting in some environmental impact. Our excessive consumerism is at the root of the problem.

When Less Becomes More - buy better forever

When it comes to living a fulfilling life, we've long been told that “less is more”. When we surround ourselves with the things that truly matter, we end up with fewer material objects but greater satisfaction. Fast fashion has skewed our perception of minimalism, with cheaper clothes made by the tonne known for high water pollution and poor material structure.

On a global scale, the fashion industry accounts for 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions. If we can limit our clothing purchases to quality made goods that outlast the shelf life of fast fashion items, we are not only saving the planet but also feeling good about it. When we consider how much of an impact we have as consumers on the fast fashion industry, sometimes less is more. The less clutter we have, the more we are doing to help save our planet one step at a time. The act of carefully selecting what you buy is an opportunity to improve your wardrobe, interior design scheme, or beauty regimen. Choosing carefully allows you to define your style or create a signature.

I read an interesting example: If everyone who hangs a Christmas stocking had a favorite stocking that they looked forward to hanging on their mantle each December, they wouldn't go out and buy, and if Walmart has no stocking customers, they're not going to order a large batch from their supplier, and no supplier is going to continue spending precious resources on a stocking that nobody wants to buy. Consider all of the synthetic red fabric we just saved. So, this year, perhaps make a difference by shopping mindfully during the holidays and adopt a sustainable lifestyle.
