Top 8 Highlights of the New York Fashion Week 2023

From February 10, 2023, to February 15, 2023, we witnessed the fashion extravaganza of the Council of Fashion Designers of America's (CFDA) New York Fashion Week. It featured around 75 runway shows from dozens of various brands presented via Runway360. This week of glamorous fashion included sustainable fashion, couture, novelty bags, metallic fabrics, futuristic style, and sparkle-infused designs.

Various brands and designers were featured, including Altuzarra, Anna Sui, Area, Batsheva, Brandon Maxwell, Carolina Herrera, Coach, Collina Strada, Dion Lee, Eckhaus Latta, Elena Velez, Gabriela Hearst, Jason Wu Collection, Khaite, LaQuan SMith, Michael Kors, Palomo Spain, Prabal Gurung, Proenza, Schouler, Puppets & Puppets, Sergio Hudson, Simkhai, Sukeina, Tory Burch, Ulla Johnson, Who Decides War, Willy Chavarria, etc.

On February 10th, New York Fashion Week started off with Rodarte and it ended with a collection by LUAR on February 15th, 2023. Along with these many brands were appointed digitally. Also, there were many first time entries, such as Heron Preston, Koltson, Cucculelli Shaheen, Ayama Studio, Kallemeyer, Kate Barton, Nayon, Zimo, etc.

Following are top 8 highlights for the fashion enthusiasts who missed it.

LUAR - Designer Raul Lopez caught all the attention and gained recognition for his work. The models were seen wearing high shoulders, oversized clothes, different proportions of garments that were loved by fans and guests. His collection was ‘street but elegant’. It included gowns, hoods, coats, jackets, belts, skirts, etc.

The Blonds - It was inspired from the Hollywood styles with the love for jewelry. The larger than life gemstones’ emojis were included. The show was closed by model Dominique Jackson who wore a dress with a giant diamond emoji on it. Blond said, “The new collection referred to Breakfast at Tiffany’s and My Fair Lady, as well.”

PH5 - Designer Lin’s collection sent a strong message about ocean plastic pollution. The collection was made using the plastic from their family and friends. It included knits and colors that were inspired from jellyfish, corals, and the waves of the ocean.

Luis De Javier - It was a debut for the Spanish designer. It was notable for its vegan leather and closing performance of the show by Julia Fox. The collection also featured latex, jeans, and spikes.

Malan Breton - He has designed gowns for various celebrities. His collections focused on classic looks using high quality fabrics and were inspired by European craftsmanship. It included glamorous gowns, floral patterns, etc.

Plein Sport - A fantastic collection of sportswear. It included the whole outfit from crop tops, and tracksuits or leggings to sneakers. This athletic wear grabbed the attention at New York Fashion Week.

ADEAM - Their collection was gender neutral and included items made from faux leather, lace, tulle, and velvet. The collection was made in Japan using Japanese fabrics.

Private Policy- The brand had a ‘We are all animals’ collection theme. The collection was mostly pastel lilac, orange, gray and black. They started off the show with ‘The Fox’s Wedding’, which is a Japanese folk tale. Their AR (Augmented Reality) clothing items on Zero10 app stole the show.

There were various other brands that had a gender neutral collection. Collections included punk styles, casuals, oversized sweaters, outfits inspired from Korean school uniforms, etc. American Accessory Designer of the Year, 2022 recipient Lopez of LUAR closed the show.
