Green is the new black

Are you looking forward to the Black Friday sales? We have something more exciting in store for you. And better for both you and the environment. At the end of November, a movement emerged to try to flip the concept of Black Friday by advocating for responsible and sustainable consumption. Green Friday promotes recycling, small local businesses, artisanal products, and thrift stores.

To be honest, the Black Friday sales are very appealing. But do you know how much those discounts are costing our planet? Black Friday is always the Friday following Thanksgiving, which is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November each year. Why is Black Friday deemed unsustainable? Because it is! It promotes excessive consumption and low-cost consumption. Because of their higher cost base, small independent businesses typically suffer on Black Friday.

The fashion industry, particularly fast fashion, is already polluting and exploitative. Black Friday exacerbates the problem by encouraging more people to spend their hard-earned money on those tempting deals. Black Friday has a significant negative impact, ranging from non-recyclable, mostly plastic toys to e-waste and fast fashion that is only used for one season. Transportation has a significant environmental impact in this area as well!

Clothing that is easily accessible and reasonably priced can be beneficial to consumers, but too much of it can be harmful to the environment, especially if it is purchased and sold frequently. In addition to consuming resources and emitting carbon emissions, the discarded material used in fast fashion clothing frequently contains microfibers of plastic that eventually pollute the ocean.

Clearly, Black Friday shopping is bad for the environment, but you can change that by participating in our Green Friday campaign. Keep up with us to learn more about this exciting green week! #buybetterforever #bbfcampaign
